Jason Derulois back with a new banger called 'Goodbye' and it features a number of stars like David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, and Willy William.
Dropping simultaneously with word of Guetta's new album on Thursday (August 23), the island-charged collab samples a page from Andrea Bocelli's classic 'Time to Say Goodbye' as Derulo adds a dash of R&B melodies, Minaj spits speedy bars and William unveils a verse in Spanish. Fun fact: Minaj previously collaborated with Derulo and Guetta on 'Where Them Girls At,'Light My Body Up,' and 'Swalla.'
Just a day later, Derulo took to Z100's 'Elvis Duran and the Morning Show' to promote the new single, admitting that he's working hard to finish up the accompanying LP. 'I'm finishing the album up. I'm actually going on tour on starting September 19, so between now and then, I wanna finish it up and then we'll decide when we're gonna be able to release it,' he said, adding that 'Swalla' and 'Tip Toe' will be included on the set. 'Everybody has a very busy schedule as you can imagine at that level. It's tough, but it's not like you would imagine. It's still as collaborative. You don't have to be in the same place to be that collaborative.'

Meanwhile, in an Instagram post to accompany his album announcement, Guetta described his new LP as a benchmark in his catalog. 'In my career, I never wanted to make something that is just credible, I always want to create something INCREDIBLE,' he captioned a shot of the album artwork. 'I am so happy and proud to announce my seventh full length studio album '7'! This album is very special to me because it feels like I have entered a new phase in my career. I'm so thankful for all the support from my fans, my team and all the featuring artists. Without you, this album would not be here!! On September 14th it will officially see the daylight. Can't wait!' Expect even more stars on 7, which drops September 14, including the likes of Justin Bieber ('2U'), Sia ('Flames'), G-Eazy, J Balvin, Lil Uzi Vert, Stefflon Don, and more.

'Swalla' is a song by American singer Jason Derulo featuring American rappers Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. It was released on February 24, 2017, by Warner Bros. Records, as the lead single from Derulo's upcoming fifth studio album 2Sides[1]. The song was written by Derulo, Minaj, Dolla $ign, Ricky Reed, LunchMoney Lewis, Robert Diggs, Jacob Kasher Hindlin and Russell Jones.[3][better source needed]
Background and release[edit]
Derulo previewed 'Swalla' in a video posted in August 2016.[4] He officially announced it as a single on January 2, 2017.[4] 'Swalla' premiered on February 23, 2017,[5] and was released for digital download on iTunes Store the next day.[6] While talking about the song on the red carpet of the 59th Grammy Awards, Derulo said;
'I never believe in forcing a collaboration. You know, Iâm a fan of both of theirs and I thought that they fit the track perfectly. Itâs one of those ones thatâll get you up and doing your thing. I feel like itâs gonna stick out on the radio. Thereâs nothing that sounds like it.'[5]
Parts of the chorus are created as an interpolation of ODB's song 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya'.[7]
On May 12, 2017, the trio released 'Swalla (After Dark Remix)', a slow-paced acoustic remix of the original song.[8] In an interview with The Fader Derulo said about the remix: 'It was so nice we had to do it twice! The original version is the ultimate club track, so the idea was to give people the flip side of the song. The subject matter and melody is so sexy, but you might miss the âsexyâ in all the fun of âSwalla.â So, After Dark is on the opposite side of the spectrum and is SURE to set the mood.'[8]
Critical reception[edit]Nicki Minaj Jason Derulo Video
Justin Ivey from XXL wrote that Minaj 'comes through to close out the track with bars that steal the show'.[9] Joshua Espinoza of Complex wrote that 'Jason and Ty handle their verses nicely, but Nicki is definitely the star', also saying that the song 'definitely has potential'.[10]Rap-Up also praised Minaj's verse saying that she 'anchors the track with a third and final verse that many will likely assume is another thinly-veiled jab at Remy Ma'.[11] Hilary Hughes from MTV News wrote that this is a 'steamy number that has all three chiming in over a wobbly beat that would feel right at home on the floor of a beach club in the Caribbean'.[12]
Music video[edit]
On February 24, 2017, the official lyric video for 'Swalla', directed by Alex Lockett, was uploaded to Derulo's YouTube channel.[13] The music video premiered on March 17, 2017.[14] As of April 2019, the music video had received over 1.3 billion views on YouTube.
Live performances[edit]
Derulo and Ty Dolla $ign performed the song live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on April 6, 2017.[15] Derulo and Nicki Minaj performed the song at the Billboard Music Awards on May 21, 2017.
